Course Description:

  • Combined classroom instruction and staff participation to develop and refine techniques and procedures to conduct tactical level staff planning.
  • Navy Planning Process (NPP) and Battle Rhythm fundamentals.

Scope:  

The NPP course combines classroom instruction with staff participation to develop and refine techniques and procedures required to conduct tactical level staff planning.  The NPP course is the first step in the Fleet Readiness Training Program. 

The following topics are covered in NPP:

o   Mission Analysis

o   Course of Action Development

o   Course of Action Analysis (Wargaming)

o   Course of Action Comparison and Decision

o   Plans and Orders Development

o   Transition

o   The Role of the Commander and Staff in the Navy Planning Process  

Attendees: 

SG Staff, Senior Decision Makers, All WCs and Staffs, with emphasis on N2 Staff, CRC, CDS N2, CVW AI, Individual Unit COs, OPSOs, and CSOs.
